Handmade cow patty-shaped invitations for a client’s party. All materials used were recycled and the paper was made with mustard seeds. After the information was received by potential party-goers, the patties could be thrown in their yards for growing and eventually eating!

San Francisco Arts Commission hosts an annual public art event called Passport. Passport is an affordable do-it-yourself art collecting experience, taking participants on a neighborhood stroll to collect artist-designed “passport stamps” in a special booklet that, once complete, becomes a limited-edition art book with original work by some of the Bay Area’s finest artists, both established and emerging.
Able & Baker Studio hand screen printed all Passport 2010 passport booklets and posters for the event.
Passport 2010 Participating Artists: Timothy Cummings, Richard Diebenkorn (courtesy of the estate), Jamaica Dyer, Ana Teresa Fernandez, Suzanne Husky, Jason Jägel, Ruth Laskey, Paul Madonna, Nigel Poor, Ricardo Richey, Lordy Rodriguez, Jovi Schnell, Travis Somerville, Deth P. Sun, Weston Teruya, and Lindsey White.
Modern Appealing Clothing is much more than a clothing store. Co-owners and siblings, Ben and Chris Ospital, offer “up-to-the-minute design, cumulative decades of fashion know-how, and strong family ties. MAC is a his and hers boutique that shares a commitment to free-spirited clothing, innovative designs, and a bohemian sensibility in products from Europe as well as homegrown talents.”
We were more than honored to be invited to perform live screen printing in their stunning (and immaculate) shop. For a “WOMEN WE LOVE!” event, we screen printed bags with Master Printer, Anne Olson’s artwork and Kerry’s, our Project Manager’s, handwritten lettering. In addition to our presence that evening, Tablehopper Marcia Gagliardi showcased her new book and Rosenmunns’ Sydney Rose and Ashley Munn showed off their new clothing collection, made exclusively for MAC.
Here’s a handmade piñata we made for a client’s uncle’s birthday party. Her family has a long history of trying to out-do one another when it comes to birthday piñatas. I’m sure she’s got them all beat with this custom-made caricature of the birthday boy!
ELIXIR is a green-certified neighborhood saloon located in the Mission Dolores section of San Francisco, on the corner of 16th Street and Guerrero, where it has served its neighbors since 1858. Pouring fresh and diverse drafts in signature glassware and mixing unique, hand-made cocktails with fresh fruit and herbs distinguishes Elixir from the numerous bars in this vibrant nightlife corridor. It is also the second oldest saloon in the whole city!
Able & Baker Studio was chosen as their Green Business of the Month in April 2010. We were invited to come into the saloon and perform live screen printing on a beer barrel. The bags were also hand sewn out of salvaged children’s clothing.
Our friends at YESYESYES Magazine hosted their magazine release party in our studio. A few bands played, including Thee Oh Sees and members of Girls. A good time was had by all!
As a gag gift from one billionaire to another, we were commissioned to sculpt a humongous head pinata. It was sent along with a note, stating, “Don’t say I never helped you get a-head.”
